Family Sumer Sunday at Music on the Hill
Music on the Hill announces a "Family Summer Sunday” for its 3rd Event
Demelza Hospice Care for Children is delighted to announce the programme for the third day of its series - an exciting new outdoor summer event of world-class music performances and entertainment called Music on the Hill staged over the weekend of 24, 25 and 26 June 2011.
A family Summer Sunday rounds off the weekend, and follows performances by Katherine Jenkins on Friday 24 June and McFly on Saturday 25 June. The third day offers a change of pace from the concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings as a family festival atmosphere plays host to some great family music and entertainment, with children’s activities and entertainers, plus plenty of stalls to browse with treats for all the family.
On the bill so far for Sunday 26 June:
• Björn Again - Dubbed by Time Out, New York as “the most entertaining live rock show in the world,” Björn Again was first launched by Australian Director and Musician Rod Stephen. Seen as a light-hearted satirical parody of ABBA and a brand in its own right, the show rapidly achieved cult status. To date Björn Again has performed over 3500 concerts in 51 countries in the northern hemisphere to millions of people, proving that the show is more popular than ever.
• ABC, fronted by Martin Fry. It may be twenty seven years since the hit album The Lexicon Of Love with hits such as The Look of Love, Tears Are Not Enough and Poison Arrow, but ABC audiences world-wide all say that the energy of the band today and Martin Fry’s vocals easily match their performances of the ‘80s, still delivering great music and entertainment.
• X Factor’s Ben Mills with his Rod Stewart revival band, Simply Rod. Music on the Hill are very keen to showcase local talent for their closing event, and are delighted to welcome X Factor 2006 finalist Ben Mills, with his highly-successful Rod Stewart revival band Simply Rod. Ben’s success on the show resulted in a recording contract with Sony BMG and the subsequent release of his debut album, ‘Picture of You’, in March 2007 which sold over 130,000 copies. In the years since, Ben has secured a very strong following.
• Some Velvet Morning. The South London-based rising stars Some Velvet Morning cite their influences as The Police, U2, and White Stripes. Their appearance at Music on the Hill co-incides with the release of their debut album on My Major Company UK.
Music on The Hill will take place in a dedicated arena at Kings Hill in Kent, close to the picturesque village of West Malling and will offer an opportunity to enjoy favourite artists in more intimate surroundings. In addition to a great musical experience, there will be high quality food and drink, where possible sourced from Kent producers.
Apart from offering a first class entertainment experience, Music on the Hill is a fundraising event in aid of two charities: Demelza Hospice Care for Children and The Children’s Development Trust. 100% of the profits generated will be donated to these two causes. In addition, the event is being generously supported by a number of companies and organisations including the site development partners, Liberty Property Trust UK (Liberty) and Kent County Council (KCC), who have kindly agreed to provide the venue.
Demelza Events Co-ordinator Sarah Marsh said: “We’ve put a lot of thought into making our Sunday event an opportunity for a family outing – from the range of bands playing, with sing-along hits to appearances by stars of hit TV shows. Work is still ongoing and we hope to be able to announce a few more celebrity appearances, as the momentum gathers. Apart from the music, there will plenty of fun activities for children of all ages, covering craft, circus skills and street entertainers. At Demelza, we’re about working with families, as much as with individual children, so this is a really fitting way to end this fantastic event.”
