Kings Hill Falls in Love with Tennis
A Kent tennis club is well on its way to producing stars of the future following a hugely successful first year.
The Kings Hill Tennis Academy, which is based at the David Lloyd Centre at Kings Hill, provides coaching for children between the ages of four and sixteen and already teaches nearly 350 children.
In the last year the club won the West Kent Division Boys 14’s Winter Season; the Girls 14’s and the Boys 16’s. It has seen the highest increase in the number of children playing 20 or more matches of any club in Kent and the club won the Kent Lawn Tennis Association’s award for the biggest increase in the number of regularly competing juniors.
In addition, eight of the under 10’s have been invited to attend regional talent ID sessions.
The club is sponsored by Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust UK Ltd and is run by Shane Theobald and Lee Friend.
“It has been the most fabulous start to the club and we are delighted that Liberty is sponsoring us,” said Shane. “There are some very talented children in the county and it is a privilege to be able to help them on their way to possibly becoming the Wimbledon players of the future.
“We are in the process of applying for a Lawn Tennis Association Performance Club Accreditation which would further raise and enhance the profile of the club.”
Liberty has already provided funds for the club to increase the number of coaching hours, buy equipment and provide the children with branded sweatshirts, and continues to help the club.
“We believe that developing is not just about bricks and mortar, it is building communities, and as part of the Kings Hill community we are delighted to support local organisations where we can,” said Andrew Blevins, managing director of Liberty Property Trust UK Ltd. “The Tennis Academy has become a huge success thanks to the hard work of Shane and Lee and it is great to know that we are nurturing such talented children here at Kings Hill.”
The Kings Hill Tennis Academy operates from within David Lloyd Kings Hill and can be accessed by children who are members of the club. There are talent spotting days throughout the year and anyone interested in finding out more should contact Shane Theobald or Lee Friend on 01732 222350 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
