Academy Pays Off
The hard work of the children at the David Lloyd Kings Hill Tennis Academy has paid off, with one of them winning the Kings Hill Tennis Club’s adult men’s singles as well as the Boys 16’s singles.
Budding star James Delaney,16, who joined the Academy last year, won both titles at the recent championship tournament, which was held at Kings Hill’s David Lloyd Centre.
The David Lloyd Kings Hill Tennis Academy provides coaching for children between the ages of four and sixteen and already teaches nearly 350 children.
Coach Shane Theobald, who runs the Academy with Lee Friend, said that it was a tremendous result for someone so young to win the men’s singles.
“James has done exceptionally well and I am sure he will go on from strength to strength,” he said. “He is certainly a talent to watch and, who knows, maybe he will take up the game professionally one day.
“We have some incredible talent in the Academy and in the year since it started we have had some tremendous successes.”
Recent notable performances include Keean Devilliers winning a Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Grade 3 event in the 9 and unders; Matthew Summers winning numerous LTA Grade 3 and 4 events in the 12 and unders as well as reaching the final stage of qualifying at the national championships and David Brown winning three LTA Grade 4 events in the 16/18 and unders.
The Kings Hill Tennis Academy is sponsored by Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust UK Ltd and residential development co-ordinator Susan Davies was on hand to present the trophies after the championship tournament.
“As the developer of Kings Hill, we understand the importance of engaging with the community we are helping to create as a vital aspect of ‘placemaking’ and I was delighted to be asked to present the prizes,” she said. “The Academy is a great asset and it is great to see that so many children have joined. It takes children from the age of four and, starting so young, maybe Kings Hill will produce a Wimbledon star of the future.”
