An attractive piazza connects Liberty Square with the refurbished control tower building. This is a focal point for the whole community, where people can meet, relax and enjoy the outside space. A number of additional retail units are planned as part of the project which will continue to draw customers to the retail area.
The architectural vocabulary of Liberty Square has emerged from the study of Kentish vernacular and traditional village locations, interpreted in a contemporary way. A mix of local materials has been utilised – such as timber, weather boarding, glass, plain tiles, stone and brick. Pedestrian squares designed around existing mature trees have been created. The designs of the buildings and the spaces around them have been set out to create a streetscape of a human scale. Pedestrian green routes and cycleways lead from the surrounding business park and Kings Hill residential villages. It is also designed to be accessible by car and public transport.
